Can I be older, out-of shape, or new to yoga? Of course! Yoga is for every body. And this retreat is for YOU. There will be plenty of guidance to support you during the retreat as well as full permission to be in your body exactly as it is. Feel free to reach out to Lee if you have specific concerns.
When should I arrive/depart? You must be in Antigua, Guatemala before noon on January 6, 2024. It is an easy journey from the airport at Guatemala City. Antigua is a spectacular place to visit. Arrive sooner if your schedule allows. We will recommend a hotel for participants as well as activities in Antigua. Do not schedule a return flight departing before 5pm on January 13, 2024.
How do I get there/back? Transfers from Antigua to Villa Sumaya on 1/6/24 are included and arranged by Quiet Mind Studio. It is recommended that you fly from your home city to Guatemala City. We can help recommend/facilitate transportation from Guatemala City to Antigua (about a 45 minute taxi ride and about $30). Once each participant’s travel details are known, we will also help facilitate sharing of rides where possible.
Transfers from Villa Sumaya to Guatemala City on 1/13/24 are included and arranged by Quiet Mind. Again we can make recommendations for airport hotels if needed. If you prefer to transfer to Antigua for more visiting after the retreat, let us know as soon as possible and we will attempt to arrange that.
What is Lake Atitlan like? Aside from magical… The weather is temperate and spring-like. Expect warmer days and cooler nights. The lake itself is 300 feet deep in places and sits at a high elevation of over 5,000 feet.
I’m having trouble finding a good flight. Any ideas? Depending on your home city and your schedule, it sometimes makes sense to book the two legs separately and/or consider first flying to another city and booking from there (via Miami or Cancun for example). Feel free to reach out to Lee if you want more info.
What if I have to cancel last minute? We hope you don’t, but things happen. Because we have to pay the retreat center in full in advance, we cannot refund any payments made unless we are able to re-book your spot with another participant. You could consider private travel insurance if you are concerned.
Is Guatemala safe? There is risk in any travel and no parts of Guatemala are crime-free. However, we can expect our transfers and stay at the retreat center to be very safe. If you will be traveling in the country before or after the retreat, be smart. Despite higher than average rates of crime, most visits to Guatemala are trouble-free. Avoid displaying valuable items like laptops, cameras and mobile phones. Don’t wear a lot of jewelry and only carry minimal amounts of cash. It’s generally safer to change money in hotels, at banks or at foreign exchange offices. Please reach out if you need more information about safety. We are working with the support of an American traveler who has made several recent trips to the area and can advise on best options for smart travel.
